As I unboxed the chest of frost,
got hold of spotty jumpers,
that hold my eyeball
Thought of heaving them out ,
but each had it's own tale to state.
As I touched them with affection
each cardigan told me it's story in love.
I kept on hanging on their words,
with a smile on my chin.
Some made by hand,
some gifted by someone special,
Soon hours passed
and moonlight welcomed my space
and I locked them back in the chest,
as a treasure of beautiful memories
to be kept well.

I threw the woolen cardigan
as it was woven out and
it's buttons had become pale
due to washing, but it was
later only when I saw that a
puckered hand picked it up.
Well, for her "something
was better than nothing"
as she had put it on
as if a shuddered soul was
getting solace in a
serene winter expanse.

The Devil Brought A Cardigan
 

The devil walked into a store
Eying the clearance rack.
 
He made eye contact with the cashier
Walking towards the half priced jackets
Flannels & boots.

At that moment he saw something that
became his whole world.

His fingers wild with excitement
passing through all the colors
The hangers clanging against metal feverishly
to find that they didn't have his size.
He thumbed back through the sizes
as though something would have changed
Checking then double checking.

He asked the cashier if they had anymore
in the back,
much to his dismay
to receive the same answer.

He saw a cardigan in his size but hated the way
it looked.

Flapping the hood up and down.
He circled the store
Looking up & down the isles.

Until he noticed the buttons.
Those big wooden buttons
Memories of a different time & place
How fast time slips away.

All that's left;
Shoes to match

CARDIGAN
I found a cardigan
in a heap of old garments
my eyes brightened
at the faded blue
and
time stopped for a moment
as I went back to that winter
when you laid it
upon my trembling shoulders
and
offered warmth to a beggar.
