अमर हो जाते हैं

Today, I stayed indoors. Down with cold and mild fever, this is the least precaution I could take especially when the sky is littered with clouds and there is very little sun throughout the day.

Has Delhi become colder? Or does it get cold post Dusshera? My memory of it seems fractured. Distance is a real thing, I fathom. A blurry image of us two riding to C.R. Park on my rickety scooter comes to mind. You had clutched my navy blue jacket from the sides instead of the casual wrapping your arms around me. It was one of those journeys together that was taken to replete the growing silence with laughter and candour, hoping festivity would turn things around. Throughout the ride, we didn't exchange a word. Thankfully, C.R. Park was teeming with everything Bangla, making conversation difficult. We munched on coviragis and phuchkas, waiting for the idol to be unveiled. It was, in due time. Ma Durga's shining eyes resembled yours, how they used to be when we first met. I dug into your eyes to confirm. Dark indifference circled them. Your stare was cold but not enough, the warmth amiss.

I now remember how's Delhi at this time of the year. Cold but not enough, the warmth amiss.
