I was supposed to call you today. To listen to the harrowing stories of domestic violence faced by women who suddenly have found themselves locked down 24x7 with their violent husbands, whose frustration at not being able to find alcohol channels into fatal beatings. You're with an NGO that works for the victims of domestic violence. I believe you're the best person for the cause. I haven't known someone who breathes, lives and champions women rights like you. You're the one who schooled me into feminism, showed the graded inequality that exists in our religious & societal setups, made me more open to the idea of social justice as an employer.

I thought thrice about calling you today but didn't. Don't get me wrong! These stories of violence need to be told & I promised I'd help broadcast but along with these stories, there was also another story that I dreaded to hear. You're locked down at your boyfriend's. You had visited him in March & then the country got locked down. I did not call you today because a bigger, more personal fear grappled me. I feared, no, not the news of any violence as much as the bliss of your new love. Being happily sad is better than being sadly happy.
