Stand still proudly and I see,
What once was,
What might have been.
Place of beauty
Grandiose,
Abode of kings,
Now dwell here ghosts
and secrets whispered by
softly crumbling walls
Songs of stolen glances,
sung by dancing anklets,
gone,
Gone with kingdoms lost.

Now melodies of memories
possess these vacant halls
Where once resounded sweet reproach,
the angry pleas
the salty smiles of lovers teased.

Listen reader and you will hear
soft steps of hennaed feet,
the dizzy rapture
the mirthful laughter
of buried and forgotten Queens.
