ANATOMY OF A POEM
When I sit down to write a poem,
I am mostly clueless. I start to
scan the almirah of memories
I have and pick and choose
moments that make the cut.
What makes the cut, you ask.
Well, moments that are not dramatic,
that are simple, personal & memorable.
Like how my sister loses the cap
of every bottle she drinks water from,
how my mother joins hands to pray to
Sai Baba that appears on her FB feed
three times a day, how my father loves
Jagjit Singh with the passion of a stalker,
downloading every YouTube video of his.
When I sit down to write a poem,
I feel as if I'm spending time with
my favourite folks once again.
