Blackout

My mind was transported to those days,in school. I was a nine year old, maybe in standard five. I remember the whole our Mitra Type railway quarters, painted grey rooftops. Pitch dark at night,all our window panes covered with newspaper,lest the light escape out. The house was lit in kerosene oil lamps, the flicker of the flames still dance before my eyes.
We were told to lie on the ground in case the fighter planes vroomed overhead, with their deafening noise.
Too young to fathom what was happening, War , what was it? In 1962,
Vivid memories flood my mind now, I understand that now. My little mind then couldn't realise the gravity of the situation. I remember we were going to school, and the sirens blared, soon one aunty, gathered us into the safety of her home.
Wow, those were our childhood memories, school,and a war beyond our understanding.

Jeli rose out of the water to her hips where her waist met her tail and sang her beautiful siren's song. It called the sailors on the ship to her, a whisper to each of their hearts that they could not resist.

But she wasn't trying to drown them as the legends said. No. She was trying to save them.

The sirens blared in the background.
Though it hardly mattered.
The streets were empty anyway
What else could you expect, at 2 a.m.

Fairies walk among us,
With promises that they made,
Fulfilling all their vows,
Before they start to fade.
Werewolves walk among us,
She protected her friend,
Her fierce voice could be heard,
From across the corridor's end.
Sirens walk among us,
Giving peace with their songs,
Singing of each person's life,
Making sure everyone belongs.
Angels walk among us,
Helping everyone they meet,
Staring at the sky,
And wishing people were more sweet.
Humans walk among us,
Different types all around,
Sweet, bitter and sour,
Their emotions make no sound.

stay alert and never afraid.
