in the receding waves

make sure to take away
the quicksand

but leave just enough
salted mist on my lips
to remind me of the
aftertaste of a
broken promise.

packed up
and mocked my existence.

And there she was,
standing in dirt
holding her face,
weeping rivers
to create
quicksands.
