उम्रदराज स्त्रियों की नजरों से
अपने आप को बचाए रखने के लिए
विवाहिता औरतें
ढककर रखती हैं अपनी नाभियाँ
सींगों पर बनी वृताकार धारियों की छू कर
पशुओं की उम्र पता लगा लेती हैं उम्रदराज स्त्रियाँ

सुना है कि
होशियार उम्रदराज स्त्रियाँ
औरतों के पेट पर उकरी झुर्रियों से
पता लगा लेती हैं उम्र की धारियॉं
पेट पर बनी धारियाँ
उम्र का हिसाब बता देती हैं
दूसरी बार प्रसुता बनते ही
उम्रदराज हो जाती हैं स्त्रियाँ
शायद इसिलिए विवाहिता औरतें
ढक कर रखती हैं अपनी नाभियाँ
