Self-proclaimed divine brutes
Tilak topi dadhi burqa
Embellishment to delude
The innocent faith of awam

Stop! And scrutinize
You god-damn god man
Does duplicity have a state
Before God?

Forgetting that it's my life, still
And not a biography

#A midnight letter #
My bad day turns into a good one
when the physiotherapist comes
calling and advices seventy two hours
of bed rest to an unresting woman
who nurses a sore lumbar region!
Ha! Seventy two hours? scoffs
the superwoman in me
for she is a package of her own -
a cook, driver, wife and mom,
etc, and, wait! a teacher, her profession.
How can the superwoman rest
while the world churns up and down?
Will the superwoman allow
her social conditioning to stand
in her way on health grounds?
She hobbles to the kitchen
explaining to herself that she isn't alone,
for out in the society are her likes
who are doing more than needed;
and, above all she isn't indispensable
for her absence won't be missed
when her eyes closes to the world.

Shelves with names, books arranged
A table, large and one that's not
A mess on both, disarray
Papers filled, part-filled
Some crumpled or halved
Mostly empty, unfilled or blanked
Coffee stained notebooks, post-its
A flask, water maybe or coffee
Cups filled with pens,
Used, unused, uncapped
A rose from Valentines lay across
And a memory attached, both dry
And a thinker, self proclaimed
In this writer's home
