Prying or a Different Halloween

Prying eyes looked over the sunset
Through the red of twilight curtains
Into what was cooking in the pot
They smelled blood
And delivered a swift decree.
A story did run
Full of shadowy truths
Only to fade into yellow
Of paper
Accumulating in piles
Waiting perhaps to start a pyre.
