Devi Katyayani got her name after being born to the Sage Katyayan.

This avatar of Maa Shakti is believed to be the most aggressive form in order to destroy the King of demons, Mahishasur. She is equivalent to the fierce forms of Maa Shakti or Maa Durga, a Warrior goddess, which also includes Bhadrakali and Chandika in Shaktism. 
She is associated with red colour and devotees must offer her red flowers especially hibiscus or roses during Navratri festival.She has special blessings for her female devotees to give them strength to fight off evil presence around them.
Maa Katyayani also fulfils wishes of young women seeking the desired match and also blesses women of happy married lives.
