Breadcrumbs
Part I

Hanging on to the good memories that felt like magic.
Times when we laughed so hard it made me sick.
The good times are growing fewer & further in between.
At times having arguments so ugly, both intentionally being mean.
A little here & there of playing nice & things are alright.
I take the breadcrumbs delaying the next fight.

Breadcrumbs are a way for a guy to hold on to a girl without making much efforts or commitment...
Still not clear?...
If you don't hear from him in two days and
He finally sends you a text message with nothing but a kissy face emoji... That's a breadcrumb!

I have lost battles,
one after another,
like fragile feathers,
carried of by the restless wind.
But I have won the small wars,
those quiet, breadcrumb wins,
scattered across my path,
guiding me forward
in the dark.

So that Gretel can trace her way to reason

Part II

Giving just enough breadcrumbs to string me along.
The question is, why have I stayed this long?
Do I deserve more or is this what's meant for me?
Trying to change another will ultimately only hurt me.
I've surely changed, it's unclear if it's for better or for worse.
I remain low on the priority list, I've never been put first.
