A flower in the desert
Scorching sun beats down
Sand devoid of water and nutrients
and still
It blooms
It may remain for only a day
Withers and dies
hours after rising up
From the desert floor
It is here
Breaking through the surface
to see the light
of day
to experience only a single breath
Of air
to reveal scent
Of itself
in this hospitable place.
