Sometimes thinking of you feels
Like digging through scraps
To find a blank space on
the page on which to write
a poem.

Like we're stealing for
time in a too-busy world
carving out stolen moments
for any brief sweetness we can manage.

And maybe it will be this way
for a while, yet, because I
don't see life getting any
simpler any time soon.

But I promise that as long
as there are unused corners
and the blank back of pages
that I will keep writing
these words for you,

which is to say, I'll never
stop making gardens for our
bond to bloom.

फैसले तो इंसान खुद ही कर लेता है,
निकाहों के हो या निगाहों के।

उस दिन चाय बना रही थी,
पतीला छोटा था, तो चाय उबल नहीं पा रही थी
बार बार पतीले से निकलने को हो रही थी।
बडा पतीला लेके उसमें चाय उबालना शुरु कर दिया
अब बडे पतीले से नहीं निकल रही थी
खिलखिला के उबल रही थी
मानो मुझे देख के खुश हो रही हो
और अपनी आज़ादी लेहरा रही हो।
कुछ इस तरह ही बाजार से लौटते वक्त
उस मां को खुशी मिलती होगी
जो कोई बहाने से निकलती हैं महीनों बाद
उस मिश्री से घुली हुई क्षणिक आज़ादी चखने।

लॉकडाउन में कुछ दिनों के लिए
घर के अंदर रहना मुश्किल लगता है
पर कई महिलाओं का यह दैनंदिनजीवन हैं ।
सभी मॉंओ को समर्पित।

मोहब्बत बेहद थी उससे,
पर एक दिन
उसने मेरे शेरू को
कुत्ता बोल दिया।
