Beliefs are important because behavior is important and our behavior depends on our beliefs and belief systems. The more important the behavior in question is, the more important the underlying beliefs must be. The more important those beliefs are, the more important it is that they would be open to understanding, reasoning, arguing, exploring, examination, experiencing, experimenting, questioning, and challenges and so on.
