You know, it's very hard, and even impossible to deal with mental struggles you're going through, when you lack the "will to ignore". Because every time when you get that negative impulse in your head, you're eventually drawn back to that stimulus, ending up with response you shouldn't have given. Repetition is one such example, which is the outcome of your habit you build up while being obsessed with negative overthinking and lacking the morale to ignore.
Definitely, it's never going to be easy to get over the thought you're constantly into, but lacking that self-confidence is an another and most important thing and it is indeed, directly proportional to your will to ignore!

Out of lack of self-confidence, you start creating those 'what if' scenarios in your head. You unnecessarily start stressing over & become super conscious about several useless things both consciously & subconsciously, eventually distracting you from important tasks. That nervousness getting on your nerves making you super conscious about your image, that you're drawn back to the same point and compelling you to check the stuff again and again. This ultimately becomes a huge problem similar to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or you may become one suffering from it.
Root cause being the bitter fact that you don't trust yourself, & due to this lack of self-confidence you're completely entangled in a mind web created by your very own theorizations that have nothing to do with the reality that you're living.
It's, therefore, important to keep your mind busy, since empty-headed suffers more. Engage yourself in creative activities, work on your strengths. Avoid cooking up baseless stories in your head, these certainly won't take you anywhere, instead would end up making you mentally sick day by day.-
