Men are usually described with
synonyms such as - rugged,
rough, sharp, edged, broody,
gloomy, stoical, burly, buffed
up, grim, angry and aggressive.
That's how society views them.
They're viewed as creatures
who must live with their legacy
of harshness, strength and
violating violence to establish
the truth of their emphasised
power but to be honest, many
young women like me don't
believe in this definition of
prowess.— % &Because I've seen and heard
and known men who lived like
free-spirited Dandelions and
swayed to the beat of their
hearts as daffodils. Men,
whose emotions surfaced
like an absorbent cotton
ball floating on a stream
of their hearts. I've watched
their minds rain when
the clouds of their thoughts
became heavier than the
weight of their bodily mass.

And you're telling me, men
can't be beautiful? Of course
they're.— % &Have you seen
the way some
of them have
those pointing
sharpened, blazing
eyes? Eyes which
speak in volumes
without words being
spoken. They're mostly
golden brown or brown,
where I live.

They can be as light as the
winds and as delicate as flowers,
tender like lotus petals when
comfortable in someone's
presence.— % &Caress his arms
with your lips and
reverence, you'd
find his soft sighs
followed by a melting
heart. Run your fingers
through the arch of his
back and spine, he'll be
delighted. Place your
smile on his shoulders,
he'll be utterly smitten
and relaxed. — % &Everything about
him is musical you
just didn't hear his
anatomy sing nor
have you ever observed
how sonically soothing
is his soul and mind!— % &

THE MORNING VOICE
(SPOKEN WORD POETRY)

He woke up with a voice fry
layered with bass and reverb
He would sound a lot like a steamed
vapour as if there could be a gurgling,
boiling water echoing through
his vocal chords,
His words and syllables remain
jumbled up as he does continue
to mumble through his slumber
His laugh, like a deep rumble
echoes as he fumbles. — % &He stirred and continued to
shuffle
As his hair became a mess
looking ruffled,
Then his voice sounded like
a Hawkins and Prestige cooker
sighing at a lower decibel, cracking
and crackling, only to rise higher
with a gruffy chuckle.
His frequency flows as the
running water from a kitchen
faucet over-flowing in the sink,

— % &These ears tingle with
goosebumps as he
continues to speak and
his whispers tickle me like those
Chilli Peppers putting my
eardrums on fire
Or how onions make us cry
and smile with its spicy irritation,
Yet you love the way it tastes
And the same goes for
his sonorous, morning voice
As his speeches sound like
the taste of Ginger and Garlic,
Oh, can't get enough of his
throaty cries!

— % &He is a big cat but domesticated
in the morning when he wakes,
Wild but tamed, adorable and a
complete sleepyhead.

Oops, how did it slip my mind?
He's a regular version of Frank
Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Weekend
Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran,
Stephen Sanchez and
Conan Gray when all he does
is merely talking at the dawn break,
His consonants and vowels
in those early hours sound
like an effortless serenade. — % &He's a natural at being a RJ without requiring a radio channel designated to his name.

Sleeping Beauty — % & — % &I woke up to the soft dents
and folds of a blanket wrapped
around his waist while the rest
of it was coiled or either curled
around him as he slept like a
child lost in dreams.

His shoulders weren't stiff
but loose and his rhythmic
breathing made his arched
back muscles contract then
relax whereas the seeping
sunlight gently touched his
back region while cascading
from top to bottom or to the
part which was covered by
his quilt.

— % &Interestingly, his
bushy hair fell
all over his forehead
and sat obediently
with twists and knots
around his nape.
I watched in silence
as he stirred once
then fell silent as
his breathing continued
and his chest rose and fell
during a peaceful slumber.

— % &Closed eyes, sharp
nose with a small
smile resting on
his luscious lips,
he slept without
any snores.

So masculine yet
vulnerable in his
sleep, something
he might have never
known or seen.

He looked like a human
shaped bear but gentle. — % &

A PASSIONATE WOMAN

I think people always obsess
about the honeymoon phase
and forget to get bored with
each other......and no one ever
tells two people who are in love
that they need to be bored together
before they grow old and get older!

Isn't it an obsession if
sparks only last for seven
years ? Isn't it just lust
when you can't get
your hands off of each
other for days, months
and weeks then one day
you both declare that it's
not exciting anymore?

— % &But listen honey, I've more
love than the skin deep
businesses; it makes me
tired to see and hear couples
say how they got bored
of each other due to life's
pressure, kids and society's
ways and how their physicality
was all they could consume
and intake during their spring
chicken days.

But wait, what about
emotional intimacy
that shouldn't fade?!

Oh wait,they never worked
on their emotions, did they?

— % &I've married a man
and not someone
who's just biologically
male or solely responsible
for his Y chromosomes which
are known to be crucial.

I want to cherish you
my love, long after your
libido is gone and I'd have
hit my menopause. Silence
won't scare us because we'll
learn, we'll learn to speak
through each other's silence
and enjoy the stillness of
quietness.

Right now, your testosterone
and my estrogen and
progesterone might be loud
but they can't define who we're
or control my emotions which
I hold for you and vice-versa.

— % &I need you as a whole and
not in halves.

We're more than our ticking
biology clocks.

I'm tired of being told that
later on it'll come down to
being a responsibility, a
chore and a task which
must be maintained like
a sincere duty!

Lies, lies! — % &You can be you
and I'll be me.
Our kids will
always have a
home and we'll
have each other.
No one's a burden
or weight, nor are
we are a bond that
must be maintained.

You're a choice and
decision which I'll take
and renew everyday.
You're my vows, darling
and I'm a woman whose
passionate emotions won't
ever flicker away. — % &By the way,
I've recently
developed a liking
towards spicy dishes,
you think you could
manage the extra heat?

Maybe, you'll.

And hey, I grew up
hearing about sparks
dying and men getting
bored and women
waiting to be explored then
discarded like hand-me-down
clothes but no more,
none of that will happen
no more because
you aren't your self-deprived,
emotionally unavailable, dad
or granddad.

— % &We're two black sheep
from our respective
lineages and I love
being different when
it includes you.

I want a runny nose,
with red rimmed eyes
and burning lips when
we're trying spicy things.
Taxes, bills, relatives and
social expectations will
be managed but what
about you? You're not
a to-do list and I'm not
putting you on any waiting
list for procrastination to stare.— % &

On men and boys

She has decimated the dilapidated,
dissociated, dissipated distortions,
But you'd still find her footsteps
traversing through the ruins of resurrection.
Which discipline forms the spine
of a stable formation?
Is it trust or confession which
builds the basis of a mirrored connection?
"Boys will be boys" is no longer
a nonchalant chant but a bitter
compliment she wears on her wise tongue,
But every time she steps outside
there's barely a way for redemption
Several interrogation clouds her
perception. — % &When heaven turns to hell
Is there an outlet for your oppressed rage?
Do you synonymously use words such as 'suppressed' and 'repressed'?
Oh darling there's a fine line between
our gone by, ancient days
You came from a lineage where
inconsistency won the race;
Yet you named yourself a classified rebel
Swimming against the rhythm of waves-
A river descending against its designed, designated trail
So much so that controversy became
her infamous, second name-
And you smell scepticism when
you look around the gullible guise
of chivalry painted beneath the
regular facial hairs
But deceitful deception has knocked
on your doors when you were crossing
the eighteenth lane,
Therefore LHS=RHS, "men often
become boys and boys behave like men". — % &Seven was the holy grail,
a pious, austere, auspicious
fire sacrifice soon converged
into a funeral namesake
And now you stare in despair
at those prophetic demi Gods
whom you anointed
with an exaggerated faith,
Were the ones who fell
before your pedestal gaze!
And yet they are aristocrats
whose dictatorship keeps you
under their hypnotic says
Though they lost their glorified
opulence
Yet they suffer from hubris
for their lost, fallen Roman days. — % &Knights and princes they've
begun to line up at your doorsteps
Yet due to the crisis of a role model
you deem yourself as a creature
who has failed herself,
Every Lord dresses up as
a monster hiding inside your
brain,
But darling what if I told you
you can battle without the requirement of suspicion as
your middle name?
I know your feet often paint themselves with shades of
maroon, scarlet and red
Oh honey, yet not all smiles will
lead you towards the highway
for a wail
And not every assertion will build
you a bridge for stable, consistent fairytales.— % &When your abode didn't
bring you solace,
Your first and foremost
reaction wore fabrics
and yearns from a heartless fate
"I'm on the outside looking in",
And your twin sister from the
reverse day
Has always awaited for you
to observe and wait,
There's greenery beneath
the fern where you stay,
I know you're under an honourable
pressure to hold the prestige
of a fallen lineage who's king
became an abscond.
— % &Celebrated with pomp
for his regular, basic bare minimum
And he still has an obsession
for power when he watches
you persevere and trickle
through his controlling tantrums,
It's a bittersweet momentum
where you've learned to read
his intellectual conundrum
My love you'll pave the pathway
for your own empire and kingdom
Your reign will remain eternal. — % &

BOYISH CHARM AND RUGGED MESS

Men are usually known for
their serious looks, stern gaze
and hardened expressions when
it comes to their faces, that's
how society views them but
days like these when a young
man has a whole boyish look
on his manly face, that only
adds up to his overall personality
and charm.

It's visible in those days
when his eyes sparkle
like diamonds and his entire face
glows with tenderness beneath
the mask of maturity. There's
a paradox and oxymoron of
beauty which men barely ever
notice on their faces.

— % &No amount of
adjectives can
describe the
beauty which
shows up on
their faces during
such moments and
I'm a sucker for it.

To top the look,
add some perfect
amount of loose
curls and bushy
hair as careless
bangs on his
forehead and we're
done with the whole look.
— % &He looks like a canvas
which has been
painted with various
tones of grey,
white, black
and coffee shades.

Broody yet friendly,
serious yet charming,
sincere but jaunty,
sounds responsible
but happens to be jolly.
Still manages to look
surreal even when he
must've just woken up
or been exhausted by
the entire day.

— % &Let's call him a gorgeous mess.

And here's a Taylor Swift lyric
to sum it up, "He got that boyish
look that I like in a man....."— % &
