It was 31 May 2021. I was posted in pediatrics department for my internship. Though it was the last day for paeds but it was my fourth day at duty due to so called covid duties. During the evening hours, there wasn't much work. I went for a break with my friend. I got a call from my co-intern about a new patient. I asked if the patient was stable and told her to call JR on duty. Next minute I got another call from intern at Obstetrics regarding awaiting delivery. I asked gestation, mode of delivery and if there's fetal distress. Everything was fine. So I rushed to labour room, did the prerequisites. Baby cried immediately after birth. So I was relieved that he is fine. Just then when I was suctioning one senior said that baby is cyanosed. She attached SpO2 probe and saturation was 56%. Now she called my senior but he didn't came. And I was standing there thinking what to do. Baby was crying, term gestation and tone was fine. It was when another senior from Obs stepped up, inspected the baby and said he was all fine that I took a deep breath and did the work left. Then finally when I handed baby over to the nurse I was finally relieved that he's all right. All is well.

अपने गुरुओं की आज्ञा का किया मान
शकुनि के मन में ना जाने क्या
वापस जाने से उसने इनकार किया
फिर क्या चौदह दिन और बढ़ गए
हम जहां थे वहीं के वहीं रह गए

For the first time when you hear a sound & it literally brings lot of joy in your mind, a big smile on your face & passion in your eyes is when you hear foetal heart sounds. Sound of a beautiful life growing & being nurtured inside another beautiful life.

Being a medical student, we regress back a stage in the psychosocial development. At the age of being a young adult where development of love is seen, we are still struggling with development of identity.

If you feel that you have read a lot and now you know everything then you must be reading the wrong book. Medicine is not that easy.
