When the world is asleep, I lie awake
My thoughts racing, my mind a blur.
I fidget and turn, my body awake;
But my spirit is weary and sore.
I try to sleep, but in vain
My mind is a tangled skein of thought.
The future worries me;
the past I dwell on,
Peace and rest, like distant stars —
forever out of reach...
Oh, sleepless nights, how I dread you!
How I long for the sweet embrace of sleep.
But you inevitably find me —
And I am left alone with my restless mind.
I wish I could find a way to drift off,
To escape this endless night...
But until then, I will lie here awake,
And wait for the dawn to come.
