I saw them on the other side of the road
Brown growing into amber warming the green;
Emerald shone with life where death danced in flames
Frozen in that stare everything stills.
Neither could I blink nor break the trance
they pulled me in an unsaid romance.
There was something, something indescribable
the way they teased caressed embraced my soul.
I took a step, a step closer to life
just a few more and it'll all be mine.
A sudden rush a loud horn
I blink and it's long gone.
Woken up by the jolt I stare at the mirror
amber had engulfed the green and death stared back.

I remember you from the new years party all those years ago.
Your empty eyes scanning the room
stuck on me for a second longer.
I noticed because I've been staring at you
for the past half an hour
I took another shot and walked towards you.
It wasn't me, it was all alcohol but you didn't know that.
I stood in front of you and stared into
your hazel eyes with specks of green
I leaned in to whisper something but blacked out instead.

I open my eyes and I am met with
the same hazel eyes with specks of green
but this time I lean in and slowly whisper
"I think I love you."
You chuckle and whisper right back
"I think you fell for me all those years ago."
"Happy New Year my love."
"Happy New Year."

The silk of the sheets caressing my back,
your fingers a little rough around my neck.
Pillow ripped a little from me tugging too hard
your nails leaving scratches everywhere they go.
Bed squeaking under our weight
my screams muffled by the gag.
My breath getting shorter, yours a little heavier
withering under you unable to move an inch
my fingers losing sensation bound to the headboard
My eyes wide open as you bring it out.
One swift moment and everything stills;
I feel it oozing and a metallic smell fills the room.
Your eyes that of an animal satisfied after its hunt
& in relief I close my eyes for the last time.

When you ask me why I don't have a lover & I say
"I don't know. Maybe I just like it this way."

What I don't or can't tell is that
the very first thing I learnt about love is
"Love Hurts".
So every time it stopped hurting I left.
