A mangled version of what
I last remembered to be me
Somebody who looked familiar
But felt supremely alien
I looked harder, disappointed at what I saw
Disappointed by the scars and the weariness;
when I saw the fight in the eyes,
the stories behind the scars

Sometimes I wish
That I'd stopped, turned around and hugged you before leaving
Maybe it would have started a new chapter
Maybe you would have read my eyes
Well, maybe!

But maybe then you and I would never have become this beautiful poetry
