Some people leave. How much you try to persuade, they still leave. It takes days, may be months, for some years to come to terms with it. The first thing you think is what you did wrong to drive him mad enough to leave. But you find no reason. You sowed every seed of effort for the relationship to bloom. Why didn't it bloom? You ask yourself. My fault. His fault. No no, it's the fault in my stars. Waves of thoughts hit the empty shores and your mind keeps on gyrating in a vicious cycle unwilling to leave you at peace. Years pass. His visage is now blurry. His memories bundled in a lost book. What remains is you. A new you who has learnt to bloom from the hollow cracks of oblivion. Standing tall, you look up to the sky and smile. For him, you are what you are today.

"Nothing."
"That can't be nothing," Smirin rolled her eyes.
"Well, you can call it euphoria."
Smirin kept quiet. Her mind swept back to those days how the whole class and their entire neighbourhood envied their friendship.
Riyansh's sudden cough brought her to the present. "Are you listening Miss?"
"Oh sorry! But you didn't answer my question?"
"I wish to kiss you like this everyday for the rest of my life Miss Smirin. Will you allow me?."
For the first time Smirin felt elated. She thought to herself "To hell with this friendship...".
Joy filled her heart.

A Wholesome Meal
Asha loved her blue hairband. A plain looking plastic band with a white rose seated at it's corner.
Pretty just like her!
She didn't care much for the riches her friends exhibited. If ever her friends mocked her status, she passed it off clutching the band next to her heart murmuring, "I've the most beautiful gift my mother gave me."
One day a friend asked for the band in exchange for a free meal. Asha accepted.
On that day, she slept happily for the first time. She couldn't give a better gift to her mom- a wholesome meal.

-"Everyone's calling, let's go."
-"You carry on."
-"You?"
-"Not this time," a faint assurance flickered Deborah's face.
Jonathan stood still, his face a blank.
"But you know I want to be with you."
"I know," saying she shifted her glance to the sky. A decade of their marriage unfolded in front of her eyes. It was a bond of compromise, not of love.
Jonathan slowly retreated to the hall where some family function was going on.
She knew he would be happy. She was never his choice but his mom's. So she let him go.
Finally, she set herself free.
