Because when I do, I am misinderstood. My silence get out called cold. My honesty get called rude. So I stopped explaining. Now I just nod, smile, let them think whatever helps them sleep. Being ignored is better than being misunderstood. Misreading hurts more. I want to be understood, more than anything. But not at the cost of constantly translating my soul to people who won't really listen. I don't need attention, I need connection. And when that never comes, I get quiet. Not out of anger, out of exhaustion.

The best decision I ever made was to be quiet. I have nothing to prove. I am not convincing anyone that I am a great person. I am not fixing what I didn't break. I am not fighting for anyone to see my worth. Whatever you do is on you. Just hope you don't regret it. And for me, I am moving forward, free and at peace.
