CONVERSATIONS WITH PADRE
A man once said,
“Forgive me father for I’ve sinned,
I looked with scorn on the image with a crown of thorns,”
Then replied the padre,
“But you greet not the one whose loins gave you life,
And you see not your neighbour’s son whom you’ve condemned to malice.”
Said again the man,
“These are but mortals, a sin against mortals is no sin at all!
But to scorn the divine is to peg one’s downfall”
Then said again the padre,
“If your mind be against thy neighbour, the Lord’s countenance is far from you,
If you reverence not those you see, respect to the divine it is none but lies.”
For God is not the guy hanging by your church wall,
He might as well be the enemies you created in your own home.
