When hours go by as minutes this winter,
Will you hold my hand to pause time?
When two blankets and two sweaters are not warm enough this winter,
Will you stay? Be my sun by my side this winter?
When the world is deep asleep in the cold this winter,
Will I lie awake unaware of the cold, with you in my thoughts?
When throats dry out and water bodies freeze this winter,
Can I gulp your name with some of your smile instead of warm water?
When our glasses fog up this winter,
Can I take them both off and get lost somewhere between your pupil and iris?
You were my Christmas present, that arrived early last winter
What can I present to you equivalent or more valuable than yourself for Christmas this winter?
I put you on paper last winter
And here you are,
Tall, warm and breathing this winter
This winter, I write for you to stay
Stay with me...for all winters to come
Or at least until winters start feeling warm instead of cold.
