Shallowness is the norm here. There is shallowness in our relationships, jobs, food, conversations, inclinations and social norms. Our pleasures disguised as happiness are shallow and we are happy with this shallow existence. The search for meaning and authenticity is a burdensome endeavor. To seek meaning in a shallow world is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Thus, the quest for meaning is only for those who are willing to lose their shallow identity first which is a bottleneck for most holding it close to their chest like their baby. However, our sorrows run deep hidden from the prying eyes for the fear of being the next-door weirdo. You are allowed to share your shallow pleasures but not deep sorrows. They need to be buried and the facade of the happy face needs to be projected to not disturb the shallow pleasure-seeking matrix one finds himself in.
