शक्ति से पाला गया था मुझको,
मैं साहसी हो गई।
लोगों के ताने सुनकर,
पूरी बावली-सी हो गई।

जो बाँधते थे मुझको दुनिया भर के पैमानों में,
आज मेरी उन बेड़ियों से रिहाई-सी हो गई।
जो खोलती हूँ मैं दरख़ता किताब का,
बचपन-जवानी की अगुवाई-सी हो गई।

जब ज़िंदगी सँभाली,
ख़ुद की बुराई-सी हो गई।
सच कहती हूँ-ख़ुद को ज़िंदा रखकर,
मेरी कमाई-सी हो गई।

कभी-कभी कुछ पिंजरों की चाभी नहीं होती,
और कुछ शिकायतों की बारी नहीं आती।
जो हौसलों से नापते हैं ऊँचाइयाँ गहरी,
उनके घर दावतों की बारी नहीं आती।

तुम्हारे इंतज़ार में दीवानी हो गयी
पहले मैं थी चौबीस की
अब थोड़ी सयानी हो गयी
पहले उम्मीद थी कि अब तो तुम आओगे
मुझे अपना और खुद को मेरा बनाओगे
सूरत जो देखा ही नहीं, न किसी का दीदार रखा
गोरतलब है ना किसी से कोई इत्तेफ़ाक़ रखा
होगा मेरा भी कोई, बस यहीं ज़हन में ख्वाब रखा
एक जूनून था जो तुम्हारा हिस्सा मुझमें बांध रखा
मेरी ख़ामोशी का आवाज़ बन कर कब आओगे तुम
एक उम्र गुज़र गयी क्या कभी मुझे मिल पाओगे तुम||

मेरी पुकार में जब गूंज.. उठेगी
तब समझाना पीड़ा मुझ पर अब भारी है
आँखों से उतरेगी हया प्रेम की
ह्रदय पर कष्ट भयकारी है||

जीवन जो भ्रमों में बीत रहा है
यह भी एक गज़ब बीमारी है
मन चाहे मेरा मुक़्त हो जाऊँ
पर कच्छु जान भी अतिसय प्यारी है ||

तुम छोड़ दो उन कल्पनाओं की बत्ती बनाना
जिनके चिराग़ से रोशन ना होगा तुम्हारा घराना

मन उपद्रवी है इसे कुछ और ना समझना
नाहक़ तुम्हे दिल को पड़ जायेगा बुझाना

मोह के व्यूह में मोहित है विचलित दुनियाँ
माधव तूही परम मोक्ष हो मेरा साथ निभाना ||
