Dil khushnuma sa ho jaata hai.

Saara din uske khayalon mein chala jaata hai,
Aur aankhon ke saamne bas uska hi chehra rehta hai.
Aisa lagta hai woh kahin gayi hi nahi,
Mere aas paas hi to hai — har pal, har saans mein.

Jo ehsas tha na —
Uska, mera na hoke bhi mere paas hone ka —
Wahi usko auron se alag karta hai,
Aur mujhe har baar uske aur kareeb laata hai.

Yun toh aur bhi haseen chehre the,
Par uski sadgi aur masoomiyat ka kuch aisa shikar huye hum,
Ki na usko paa sake,
Aur na hi bhoola paaye.

Bas saara jeevan —
Uske saath bitaaye hue lamhon mein hi jee liya,

Uske intezaar mein kaat diya.
