I pray I would proffer kindness,
And acceptance and love.
I pray I would extend to others,
All that was graciously extended to me.
I pray I would do justice
To the blessings I have been dealt with.
I pray, someday, I would be half the human
My world shaped me to be.-
Today, I'm grateful,
For I know not the hate and injustice,
The inexplicable anger and discontent
That plagues the planet I survive in.
Today, I'm grateful,
For I was born into stability,
Into love and healthy relationships,
Into family and an accepting community.
Today, I'm grateful,
For I was raised by compassionate teachers,
Defended by loyal friends,
Nurtured by the best of mankind.

The older I get, the more I realise
How beyond blessed I have always been,
How in absolute privilege I was raised,
How in protective circles I was sheltered.
Hopelessness? "I don't know it."
Depression? "What's that mean?"
Loneliness? "Spell it out for me?"
Escapism? "Escape from what?"
I did what I wanted, when I wanted.
Loved with all my heart and was loved in return.
Spoke my mind with no fear of repercussions.
Lived my life without thinking twice.-
Staring through smoky glass at the chaos that is you,
Hoping this survivor's guilt doesn't flood my room...

Her beautiful brown carcass,
I laid amongst the thorns,
And wished, in her death,
She'd bring beauty to my room.

To all the people I've left on read,
To the amazing people I took 3 days to reply to,
To my loved ones that I didn't check up on,
To my friends that I didn't keep in touch with,
To all the birthdays I missed and the occasions I didn't greet you for,
I'm sorry. I really am. (Also, sorry if you think I'm going to get any better, coz that's not happening).
But I want you to know that irrespective of whether or not I text you every week, if I ever considered you my friend, you will always, ALWAYS, be my friend. And if you ever need someone, I gladly, willingly promise I'll be here for you.

A little over a quarter of a century
Of unrestrained love and Overwhelming grace.
Looking back I can only sigh
With a ginormous smile on my pretty face...

You're old, getting older,
