If you're happy then you can keep others happy. If you're fit and fine then you can take care of others. If you're financially stable then you can help others grow. A bit of selfishness is important to become selflessness.
Once you are self sustainable then you extend your hand to others.

The biggest irony is you trust the pilot of the flight with your life, you trust the bus driver with your life. You don't go to the extent of verifying whether they are competent or not. But to trust your partner you need evidence, you need proof and you keep testing them every now and then even when you know them very well.

If you want any person to listen to your words then give them the feedback in the way they need it, not the way you know it. After listening to you, they must gain confidence to do good, grow more and improve. If they feel dejected, depressed and question their existence then you have failed in giving them feedback. It is better to not give feedback at all rather than putting the person down, destroying their hope, confidence.

Never ever destroy anyone's confidence. Once destroyed they lose the belief in themselves, they lose hope, they lose their personality and everything and then the type of person they become shall be the most dangerous version of them. Either they take shelter in darkness or they become darkness
