All of us can compartmentalize our life; some of us are masters at it! While a part of our heart : brain continuum might justifiably be hurt or sad on a specific count, we still can and do react/ respond with pleasure and positivity to other situations and environmental stimuli, and also to positive overtures from others!
There is a deep science to it!

dying hope meets a plethora of possibilities
turbulent currents meet the pacifying ocean
a tornado's eye meets the barren flat earth
an empty treasure chest meets the big lottery
and then...
we won't need anyone else but one another!

and now you're mine -
a chalice to drink from
a meat platter to chew
and a shell that's mine
to occupy for millennia!

revisiting ancient, primal, primordial memories

when the pulsating blood in my bloodstream

had beaten to the rhythm of the oceantide

as YOU and I had come together

to create glorious life on Earth!

रात बहुत ही अंधेरी थी - अमावस जो थी
काम खत्म होते होते बहुत देर हो चुकी थी
थका हारा विशाल निकल पड़ा घर की ओर
पता नहीं क्यों मन में अनोखी चलबिचल थी

पुराने पुल के पास अंधेरे का साम्राज्य था
बिजली को भी आज ही चले जाना था क्या
पतझड़ थी - पांव तले सूखे पत्ते बोल रहे थे
जैसे के विशाल को कुछ कहना चाहते थे

अचानक पीछे से किसीकी आवाज़ आई
कहां जा रहे हो अकेले इस अंधेरी रात में
पीछे मुड़ा तो उसके बिल्कुल करीब था
एक बहुत ही जर्जर बूढ़ा, हाथ में लालटेन

अमा, यह जगह ठीक नहीं है इंसान के लिए
चलो मैं तुम्हे साथ देता हूं, पुल के पार तक
डरा तो था विशाल, पर किसीकी साथ भाई
उस्से बाते करते आगे की ओर चल पड़ा वह

दूर घरों के टिमटिमाते दिये नजर आने लगे
बूढ़ा बोला, अब तुम जा सकते हो संभलके
शुक्रिया कहने विशाल मुड़ा - पीछे था सिर्फ
घनघोर अंधेरा, ना लालटेन, ना कोई और!

He had been in hiding since that day.
As he tossed and turned in his sleep,
he could hear over and over again
the muffled sound of the firecrackers,
followed by a anguished scream.
His eyes flew open suddenly when he
felt something soft but cold touch his
face, as though sniffing his scent.

In the next instant, his chest was gored
open by the tusk of the huge matriarch
of the herd of wild elephants. Ripping
out the still beating heart from his chest,
she placed it gently upon the exhumed
bodies of the female elephant and her foetus.

With tears of sorrow raining down her gentle eyes, she raised her trunk and led her herd in loudly trumpeting, clearly mourning for the foetus and its mother - her only daughter!

I had reached our weekend
cottage earlier in the evening.
After cleaning the place, I had
some hot chocolate and sat on
the huge sofa reading a book.

I was startled out of my sleep
by the sound of footsteps
pacing back and forth in the
upstairs bedroom. A quick glance at my cellphone showed me it was midnight.I must have fallen asleep on the sofa.

Suddenly, the bedroom door opened and my Uncle Ralph came out and started climbing down the stairs. I paled in utter fright, because he had died in an accident over 15 years ago! In his arms was the lifeless body of my cousin Jack... who had video called me from Egypt just yesterday!

Such a tragedy -

a life so tenderly budding

was fated for this:

untimely death!
