I'm scared that this poem won't be perfect,
That the words like your past won't align.
Yet the urge to make you smile fills my veins, calms my head and strengthen my resolve.

Where do I start from
How do I talk about you and still hide my deep admiration of you?
Do I talk of you dog headed pride.
Like , how dare you call without notice
And still manage to put on a big smile.

How dare you enter my life and make it so beautiful
Who the hell are you to make me smile
And like opium, make me want more.
Who gave you the right.

See Chisom, this past month
I've tried to run from you, hide my feelings, even push you away.
Still you cling, holding on even more.

See, this isn't a poem,
No, I wouldn't be able to fit you into lines as smooth as your words.
No, neither will I be able to compose stanzas that captures your curves

This is me letting it all out,
My words, imperfect yet real enough to capture who you are.
My words deep enough to show you how much you mean to me.
My thoughts loud enough to want to hold you.

They say good ladies are hard to find
They say they come once in a lifetime
But I found you without searching
And you've made life more joyful.

I've sailed in boats of friendship
Through seas of memories,
With friends too many to count.
But yours is a journey
I'll forever cherish,
A voyage, I'd always want to embark on.
You were my shooting star in a night sky,
Too far to hold,
But Always there to grant a wish or two.
I learnt to love you,
Just as a kid learns to walk,
With each step, Cupid's arrow sunk deeper,
And now I'm running wild with thoughts of you.
The memory of that rainy day still stay fresh of my mind,
Like a maze, I could never escape from you.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
My hero in wig and gown
I'm glad I met you.
Like the full moon
You've guided my path
Taught Me what it means
To lend a hand,
To be better.
Life got so much easier with you around.

Dear Olawale

I guess the future saw how much of a mess i'd be,
How much I needed love and comfort and then sent you to me.
Like a sculptor you've assembled my ruins,
Carefully chiselled them into stairs,
So I could be better,
But no matter how much I climbed
I could never match your perfection,
Your brilliance or your philosophy of life.
Did I tell you how much I loved your dimple,
With each smile,
I am reminded of a 2020 well spent.

I haven't done this in a while,
This loving, writing, failing.
To love without truly caring
Or maybe caring a little too much.
What if she's like the rest,
Like the snow that melts when
The temperature rises.
Maybe she's a little different
With eyes that glitter like the night sky
And smiles, the size of a comfy bed.
What if she's a bit too special,
Like pearls, it takes luck to find her too.
But I'm writing again,
Scanning through this heart
Like pages of an old book.
Hoping to find relief,
Answers to my hearts questions.
And if I'm writing, loving again,
I wish I won't fail again,
Fail at loving,
Holding you so close we share the same breath.

Ok girl,
Enough of that tears,
Let go of the hate,
Enough of the "i should haves".
Put a break on the self doubt,
Quell the thoughts that try to tell you
You are not his type.
When the tears come,
Remember, its OK to cry,
its OK to say harsh words to your self,
but don't let that define you...
No no no no, your Identity does not come
From your relationship with him,
Take a step back and know your self.
Forget the pain and the heart break
They put you through.
You are worth more...
For you are rare,
if only you can discover that "crude oil"  in you that needs to be refined,
Burn the bridges of your past and
smile for a better tomorrow,
Just discover you and leave your past behind.

Poetry
They say poetry is life itself
Moving like a river current, flowing from thoughts to words.
And like the fire, these words consumes our deepest fears.

Some call poetry a demon
A nightmare
With claws curved like a sickel
ripping the heart apart
And like a surgeon
it brings out your deepest pain.

But could it be a woman,
For She has curves of beautiful rhythm,
Adorned with beads of words that seduces the right reader.

Or maybe a patient lover,
Cus She sits by the door awaiting your arrival.
On your worst day she offers comfort,
Her ears Are plain like empty paper
Waiting for your words.

They keep me awake,
Like the proverbial egungun,
They surround my dreams
Like it's my last supper.

When I see your face
The heart goes rogue
Doing the up, down movement
Like it's about to climax
Forcing my fist to clinch
And snuffing the light outta those memories

But they always come back
My head is haunted by your thoughts
And my soul has become a stranger,
Locked in constant memories of you.

Why do we doubt the presence of the father?
When trouble looms like a bad weather,
We ask "can you hear me"? When he lives in us.
"Is he really there"? When he never leaves our side.
Will he do it?when he has already done it.

Earthly things have clouded our minds, We claim to know the word of our father but do we really know him?
When troubles of life throws us out of the pew,
Can we still get up to dust our cloth like a child who has a father?
Can we set our doubts aside and believe in him?
Can we trust that he would always be there for us?
Do we have the courage to build our faith in him?

I don't want to be the jealous lover waiting by the road,
I don't want to be the traveler hunted by your love,
I just want to hold you like the sky holds the night.
So closely that I am nothing without you.
For too long I've hidden my heart's desire
Like a miser with a box of gold
For too long I've longed for that midas' touch
To turn your heart to mine,
But I guess I've lost my genie.
