Syrian Orthodox way of Appams

Every Suriyani family makes appams,
The fermented coconut appams,
The batter has raw rice soaked right,
Grind them after eight hours,
Add coconut gratings,
And the fermented coconut water,
Let the batter rest for eight hours,
Make tasty appams
It is the need of the hour,
Every day a different Appam.

Tasty cowpeas

Cowpeas is a soft alternative so healthy,
To the other beans so many,
It has a very creamy taste,
Add some coconut shavings to it,
Before you pressure cook it,
It tastes really good,

We love beans made in any way,

The golden glory

The first thing you look forward to,
Every morning is a good breakfast,
Packed with love and nostalgia too,
Not everyone likes to break their fast,
For the ones who love to,
Try this healthy dosa.
When you soak the rice and dhal,
Any dhal will do,
Our favorite urad dhal is a queenmaker,
Your dosa becomes the toast of the town,
Add some green chillies for good taste,
a piece of ginger and few curry leaves,
While you grind all these into a paste,
Let it rest for eight hours,
Your favourite green dosa,
Will be the new queen in town.

Fritters out of anything

While I stand here and watch in awe,
At the fritters made so suave,
When I was out of ideas,
The plain boiled plantain was in sight,
Don't shoot down any ideas,
These beauties are made of ragi powder,
A little curd to bind,milk to add texture,
A spoonful of sugar,
Looks like its good old cousin bonda,
We are a bond that you can make.
Out of simple things,
Do not shoot down any simple idea.

Why should one speak well?

I had an interaction today,
With a person who I assumed liked learning,
How old fashioned of me to assume,
It is not everyone to presume,
Who like to learn something new,
There are people who hate learning anything new,
It is just a survival tactic for them,
English language is of no use to them.
They run the show,
Till someone takes over their show.
It is a pity when we do not unlearn,
And bring in new ways of learning,
English is a beautiful language,
Not just for survival,
But for any sort of revival.
Learn as much as you can,
Never say it is enough if you can.

High Horse of mine

When I sit on my high horse,
I can see no one around me,
I have become so invincible,
You can say what you want about me,
Do I care when I am so unreachable?
This has been the case with many people,
They have become so caught up,
Totally frenzied up,
With high opinions about themselves,
Self absorbed and narcissistic,
With no yearning to learn or improve,
Who am I to approve or disapprove?
Each one to his own ,
This is the way I disown,
Easier said than done,
But this is how it will be undone.

Coconut cake

Let us get this straight,
No baking powder have I added in this cake,
Few table spoons of rice powder,
2 slices of bread,
An egg to increase the taste,
Many pieces of coconut biscuits,
Powdered sugar and whey powder,
Add some water,
Puree it fine with shredded coconut,
Pour it into a microwave safe container,
Microwave till you get the texture right
No fancy cake this is,
But a sufficient lockdown treat this is.

Potato fingers with a dip

I took few potatoes,
Removed the skin and diced it nice,
Added all the spices,
On a pan so nice,
I Fried it and kept it aside,
The dip can be not so classy,
Take two cheese slices,
Add some oregano,pepper and salt,
Microwave it without a fault,
Add some tomato sauce,
Mix it without a pause.
Your lovely and lively evening snack,
Will not remain on the rack.

Coconut Milk Banana Koyakatta

Easy to make,
No hardwork like when you make a cake,
Take some gluten free and rice flour,
Add some coconut milk,
Some powdered sugar like silk,
Add about 6 very ripe bananas,
Make it into a thick dough,
Add powdered sugar to grated coconut,
All this process is very easy,do not fret,
Now make it into small balls,
Stuff them with coconut shreddings you all,
Steam it for half an hour,
Enjoy with tea in an hour.
