I was looking for the moon
in a sky that had swallowed its own light.
Still, I kept looking—
not for the moon itself,
but for the promise of return,
the soft breath of silver
behind a curtain of black.

For even in Amavasya,
the moon is not gone—
only hidden,
like hope.

And I have learned
that absence is not silence,
that the dark speaks
in hushes and heartbeats,
in the rustle of leaves
that remember the wind.

So I wait—not blindly,
but with the quiet knowing
that light, once known,
is never truly lost.

मुझे क्या खबर थी कि क्या कुछ ऐसा होगा
उमर के हर दरजे पर, तजुर्बे और अचाई से परे पैसा होगा

एक बार नहीं हज़ारों बार प्यार ए इज़हार किया उस से
कल नदीया तो चली जाएगी उसका हाल किनारे पर पड़े पत्थर जैसा होगा

समंदर की ख्वाहिश थी नदी से मिलके एक हो जाने की,
बूंद से नदी, नदी से समंदर की गहराई में खो जाने की।
समंदर खामोशी से इंतजार करता रहा,
मरते मरते खुद को खारा करता रहा।
उम्मीद से नदी एक दिन फिर आएगी,
कर के मीठा खारे को उसमें समा जाएगी।

धर धरा पर गहन खामोशी छाई है
निशस्त्र खड़े उन बंधुओं की मासूमियत पर क्रूरता छाई है
अरे काफ़िर काफ़िर कौन काफ़िर
काफ़िर काफ़िर क्या काफ़िर
बुझा दिया जलते दिए की लौ को
क्या काफ़िरियत इंसानियत की इस दर्जे की तूने पाई है

बह रही नदियाँ अब लाल जल में
गूंज रही चीखें इस निर्मल पवन में
कुछ घरों की केवल तोड़ छत को
उन निर्जन कमरों की दीवारों पर बस सिसकियाँ छाई हैं

एक घाव पुराना, एक नशूर दीवाना
भुला इंसानियत को, कट्टरता के पन्ने उलट रहा
वो रहता कीचड़ में कहीं,
घिरे कीचड़ से परे वो कमल से बैर है कर रहा

मर रहा वो जानता है,
पर आशमानी शख्सियत के जुनून में है
कृपा पर करता क्रूरता,
मिलता सुख निःशस्त्र निर्बलों के खून से है

भुलाओ भिन्नता — है कमल अब,
पुष्प की सुंदरता के परे ये आतंक से लड़ाई है।
भुला बैठे जिस राम को तुम,
अब अहिंसक की उस लाठी को तोड़ने की बारी आई है।

मैं खोकर खुद को ज़माना भूल गया,
यादों की किताबों में आज के पन्ने भूल गया।
माना बेशुमार, आवारा सी एक छोटी मुलाक़ात रही,
उस मुलाक़ात के बाद मैं यादें लिखना भूल गया।

वो मोहब्बत को गुलिस्तान कर दे,
वो मिलने को बस एक बार ‘हाँ’ कर दे।

उस पर भी खुशनसीबी, वो मिलने भी आ जाए,
और मिलकर, चाय पीने को भी ‘हाँ’ कर दे।

वो बात जो आँखों से कह जाए,
वो पल जो ख़ुशबू से महकाए।
उसकी एक मुस्कुराहट भी काफ़ी है,
अगर वो मिलकर बस ‘हाँ’ कह जाए।

हो बातें दो चार, शिकायतेँ हज़ार,
दुनिया भूल जाने की कुछ कोशिश हो बार-बार।
समय को बाँध लूं इन मुट्ठियों में छुपा के,
और जब जाने लगे, वो कह दे — "और एक कप?" हो जाए।

Thousands of stories going out every day,
A passenger metro which takes everyone to their destination.

I always choose the last coach of the metro…
There is something good about that.

Everyone rushes in — eyes glued to screens,
Or staring into some memory they won’t talk about.
But the last coach breathes a little slower,
Like a quiet end to a noisy song.

The windows feel like movie frames,
And I sit back — not to reach anywhere fast,
But to watch people leave and arrive,
Just like the chapters of a book.

Sometimes I catch a smile that wasn’t meant for me,
Or a tear that someone hoped no one would see.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen
If someone just stayed on.

Would the city forget them, or would they forget the city?
Would time stop for a moment —
like the metro pausing at a station no one exits?
