Oh, you're a species so obsessed with your self worth, that you let others decide it for yourself. You try and excel in academics for securing a good job for gaining respect in society for making parents and family proud of you, for you believe that it's the only way you can repay the gratitude you have towards them for bringing you up, and often times it becomes the litmus test for finding a suitable matrimonial match for sustaining the generation's legacy with your progeny for letting them have a good life and to not have reasons to complain, for that would reflect poor parenting and would probably lead to they not wanting to care for you when you grow old and break a hip or feel lost on a cross road unable to remember neither the spelling of your name nor that of Alzheimers'.

And all of this, for self worth.
Except that, there wasn't a moment,
where you cared for that very 'Self';
what it truly wanted.
