What's so special about it? What's so great about it? Does it give any long term satisfaction? Nope. Nothing.
What's great is mutual love. What's special is the understanding between people who share their love mutually. That's the love which gives satisfaction. True love is conditional with the condition being each other's satisfaction.
When you do things out of love and affection for someone it gives you happiness to do that and so you continue to do that. But you should understand that only if that person also feels happy in doing things for you they'll do it and you shouldn't expect nothing less than that like returning the love and affection even if they don't feel them. Your love should always remain unconditional and when it starts to be otherwise stop yourself from loving them anymore.
When someone does things for you out of love and affection, they would rather hope and not expect for you to recognise not just those things but beyond all that the love and affection they show.
Even if you can't reciprocate it, atleast learn to respect it.
Reciprocation does give happiness, but respect gives satisfaction.
