I am not a religious man,
few things have saved
me.

But I know God exists in
the lyric poem
and the arch
of a woman's back.

Love is never lost.
But it can expire
and rot out your insides.

I don't battle with depression,
I go to bed with it.

And when you've finished
chasing the common and the shallow,
I will have sailed unto the island of solitude.

Not all beauty cares for your attention.
It's the same reason you shouldn't stare into the sun.

It's the Instagram models,
the finance gurus,
the marketing strategists
the 'influencers.'

It's the pornagraphers,
who make money from the misguided youth
with poisoned semen on their face.

It's the imbeciles,
who remain distracted by meaningless
sports games.

All are like McDonald's commercials.
They look appetizing, but they'll have you rotting out
your insides.

They bring no sustentative value to your life.
We all know it. We all feel it.
Yet we gravitate to it like flies on shit.

Short term pleasures, from long-term idiocracies.

Anything or anyone that only provides image and superficiality is nothing more than non-biodegradable pollution.

Not even the dirt wants them,
yet they're recycled, reused,
and here to amuse the dumb, deaf, and useless.

If I had a flower
for every time
I thought of you,
this world would be
a prettier place
to die alone.

I watched you
arrive then depart
from my life
like an unstoppable
current of a restless ocean.

I can still taste the salt
from my eyes.

And I'll admit
that I don't trust
people often,
but I refuse to believe
that happiness
could ever exist
without you.

There's a 'welcome' sign
that still hangs
on the light side
of our front door.

It's ironic because
no one is welcome here.

Then again, no one
has entered or left
ever since she did.
