They say the gods feed on belief and that they take the shapes we give them through our prayers.

If that is true, perhaps our thirst for blood and hate have turned the gods into something that doesn't look like that smiling image on the wall anymore.

The universe is a womb. At its centre floats the cosmic embryo. It has been there for eons and will continue to grow for eons more before it breaches the walls of the cosmos and is born into a greater reality. Its birth will destroy the universe, causing it to deflate and melt away.

Until that birthday however, the fluid it floats in, known as space-time to those like us, will continue to contain pollutants - tiny dust motes we call galaxies.
