She stands at the river’s edge,
Skirt lifted just above her ankles,
Water lapping at her feet,
Cold,
Restless,
Endless!

The brass pot in her hands feels heavier today,
As if carrying all the words
She never got to say.

She dips it into the current,
Watches ripples spread,
Watches the water take,

take...

Like it took him,
Like it takes every season,
Every promise,
Without ever bringing anything back.
