The watchman

My first memory is of playing cricket with the security guard of the building I live in. Whenever I got out, I used to throw my bat in anger and rush upstairs in rage.

Clad in the misfit uniform
the security guard barely in his teens
stands at attention, salutes everyone
just because they come in car.

How many have missed their dreams,
pushed into this thankless job,
much before their time
making their future insecure
to make us safe in these unsafe times?

She is being chased by a stalker,
a round "O"clock watcher.
Watches each and every move of her,
even if she whispers.
Can't see anyone talk to her,
Feel jealous if she prefers.
Try to poke that person,
fires bullet from his mouth gun.
He's hiding his identity card,
But for me he is only her security guard.

अपनी नींद गिरवी रख,
वो हमारी नींद सवार रहा था,
सजाने को अपने बच्चों का कल,
वो जाग के रात गुजार रहा था,
घर से कोसो दूर हो के भी,
फ़ोन पे अपने बच्चों को लोरियाँ सुना रहा था,
पर किस्मत तो देखो उसकी,
साहब की हज़ार गालियाँ खा के भी,
मुस्करा के अपना दर्द छुपा रहा था ।

नन्ही सी हँसी
भोली सी खुशी
फूलों सी वो बाहें छोड़ गये
जब देश ने दी आवाज़ हमें
हम घर की राहें छोड़ गये

हम सोए नहीं कई रातों से
आए जान-ए-वतन सौ चाँद बुझे
अब तो नींद उसी दिन आएगी
जब देखेंगे आबाद तुझे

चेहरे पे हंसी उम्मीद भरी,
इज्जत अफजाई रोज़ करें
अदृश्य शत्रु को कुचल वहीं,
उसे एक कदम बढ़ने ना दे..

कई रक्ष्क , वर्दी ओढ़ बने,
जो फौलाद, बारूद दिल में भरे,
एक आंच ना आ जाए किसी पे,
जिस जगह ये सीना तान खड़े ।।
