मामाची धावपळ चालली आहे

कपड्यांची जरा महागाई आहे
आजीने ही दहाची नोट ठेवली आहे

बहिणी मिळून सर्व गाव फिरलं आहे

मामाच्या मुलीही लय सुंदर आहे
ताई-ताई करत वेणी घालून मागत आहे
तिकडे आजोबा बाजार घेऊन आले आहे
आजींच्या वाटा चालू झाला आहे

मस्ती मज्जा झाली आहे
बाबांची गाडी आली आहे
आजींचा फराळ भरून झाला आहे
मामाची दिवाळी सरली आहे.....

Survivors and Saviors

We talk about them often.
Our foremothers,
strong and agile,
big brained and broad shouldered,
toddy sap in their holy veins.
No alcohol, they said.
Those women kneeled and knew
what prohibition meant.
And they were of the true faith.
But when someone cried out on the beach
in the throes of the hungry sea,
my Grandmother carried them ashore
and fed them warm food and sweet water.
For any life lost is a loss to all of life.
And if they asked for wine,
she'd let them have it, just that once.

You liked cooking good food ,
You always pampered us with mango juice,
You accepted everything that came in the way,
You were pillar of support to your children.

We cannot believe that you are no longer with us,
We will miss you Hema Mami ,
May Almighty give strength to family to bear the loss,
