The pendulum swings back and forth,
tracing hypnotic circles in white sand;
I wait on a breath, spun from the earth,
emptying myself before loss navigates my land.-

I sit with grief and hear it say
what I cannot.
It gives language to each fracture
even with its bitter vocabulary,
unties my dreams to massage hope
with fingers that leave some scars,
and sings purpose to my silence
in hoarse whispers.
Grief keeps the door open
for any new deaths or near-deaths,
and makes space for wounded promises,
their cold apologies,
their final breaths spiraling outward
between broken laughter.
I see the way
grief cradles its offspring -
tears, the salt of which
dries my wounds -
and wish to join its choir,
I wish to sing a song that screams
but doesn’t feel like a sin.-

the only place
my heart was always
meant to be held
was in my own hands,
that can pull out hope,
even in shards,
and write all the broken pieces
into my own art.

Yesterday, I did not meditate,
did not witness the sun
welcoming the moon into the lilac skies,
did not whisper incantations
at the birds on my window sill;
Yesterday, I whined about being drained,
creatively and emotionally,
and slumped into the shadows of my thoughts.
Today, I see the sun looking over me,
I brew my coffee and sit with the birds
perched on my balcony railing,
allowing the silence its space,
I whisper incantations and smile at them,
a faint one, but it feels enough;
Today, I dredge out tangled emotions
from under the ship of my life,
the ship that I am steering ahead
across this mighty sea
where storms come and go, as they please;
But I will be okay,
maybe on a different shore,

of opinions and ideologies.
