That morning at St. Maria's Orphanage was a busy, bustling one. Nuns and staff went around, seeing if all the kids were well behaved and properly dressed.
A wealthy couple was arriving from Mumbai to see the children. Childless, they were looking to adopt.

When the couple finally arrived, Sister Francine put five of her 'best children' forward.
' They are well behaved and obedient,' she told the Alappats.
' No. Introduce us to two of your worst behaved, problematic children.'
'Why?' asked the startled nun.
Denise Alappat: The well behaved will make their way in the world. It's however the damaged ones who need our love and support. We know only too well about that...once we both were damaged too.'
