STRANGE MEETING
(A POEM)
Yesternight in a deserted way
I came across the goddess of misfortune;
Long, grey hair falling on her skinny kness
Her grisly and horrid face covered.
‘Where do you dwell? Where is your home?’
I asked to end the puzzle,
The puzzle haunting the minds of men.
She burst into a laughter wild
And talked back in a horrendous tone:
‘I dwell in the spring of fate,
In the labyrinthine ways of life I live;
My home there in happiness's shadows,
On the back of the horse of prosperity I travel,
And fly fast with the breezes of bliss;
My abode there in the castles royal, beneath the glittering carpets,
I breathe on the alps of progress grand
And rest on the wings of the bird of success;
Yes, in the home of frail, weak man
I sing the songs of my victory...!’
A wink of the eye made her invisible to me
Shocked, I took a step or two;
A fragrant breeze my nostrils touched
An ambrosial scene my eyes welcomed,
And introduced the goddess of good fortune...!’
