Someone once asked the Shaykh: "O Master! How were the people of Madinah in times before these?"
Shaykh Diya' al-Din al-Madani answered: "A rich pilgrim once went to a cloth shop and asked for a certain variety of cloth in a large quantity to distribute it among the poor. The shopkeeper said; 'I have the cloth in the quantity you request, however I urge you to buy the [same] cloth from the shop opposite mine. I have had a good day of sales but that shopkeeper has had very little sales.'" Shaykh Diya' al-Din then said: "The people of Madinah were like this in the past."
May Allãh bless the people of Madinah.
