Philosophy quote 95

Unifying philosophy and science:
Neuroscience and observer

Neuroscience defines an observer. No doubt, we recieve all sensory stimulations from nature but how we perceive them depends on the neural receptors we have. For instance, light has physical properties of wavelength, amplitude, frequency and polarization. We however perceive light as brightness and colours which are properties of rods and cones in our eyes. Our perception depends on the neural receptors we have. We can say that these receptors also develop from nature and hence observer has no role. But we cannot deny that in between the natural stimulus and the motor response we give, is a space of information integration and interpretation which gives us the strength to choose. We all respond differently and in how we respond to any stimulus is our growth. All problem solving responses requires thought and understanding which cannot come without utilising this free space of observer. In times to come knowledge about how information is integrated and interpreted at quantum and subquantum level will bring a paradigm shift in our knowledge about nature and would help us unify science and philosophy.

Philosophy quote 92

Role of observer and consciousness

Max Planck once said, " Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in last analysis, we ourselves are part of the mystery that we are trying to solve."
Max Planck however didn't include the role of observer and specifically consciousness in wave function collapse and measurement of physicality at quantum levels.
He also didn't consider the fact that the our consciousness is not a passive observer of nature and physical facts but also plays a vital role in their interpretation and most importantly in finding applications which can change the very physical conditions around (even if it means only in his or her locality). The role of observer is not only significant but in times to come will play a vital role in solving the ultimate mystery of nature.

Philosophy quote 91

Unifying philosophy and science - Infinities

It is natural to be intrigued by an infinite universe but it is equally important to be intrigued by consciousness which can perceive, understand, renormalise and grasp the infinities. Here renormalisation refers to scientific methods which physicist use to make sense of infinities.
The ability of consciousness to perceive and decipher infinities is an extraordinary ability and there are scientific and logical reasons to explain how and why it happens. An understanding of how it is brought about is going to bring a paradigm shift in our understanding of universe too. And this paradigm shift is going to happen only when philosophy unites with science.

Unifying philosophy and science

Symmetry breaking and intrinsic symmetries

The physical world we live in might seem asymmetrical to us but it doesn't imply asymmetry is fundamental property of nature. It might only mean, the symmetries are not manifested directly in the physical world.
Science has known about local gauge symmetries and how symmetry breaking is essential to create a phenomenal world. Recent confirmation of Higgs mechanism and understanding how mass is generated through spontaneous symmetry breaking is an example how our understanding of nature and formation of universe is growing with new knowledge and discoveries. Without symmetry breaking we cannot experience the world in its physical form. However science cannot establish the exact nature of these intrinsic symmetries which give rise to physical world, simply because these symmetries cannot be measured directly. In times to come exact nature of these intrinsic symmetries will be brought to our awareness and this will happen when science unifies with philosophy.

Philosophy quote 89

Unifying philosophy and science

The properties of vacuum

Science has long known that vacuum acts as a medium that carries waves. It has properties which allows electromagnetism to travel at a certain speed according to the permittivity and permeability of the medium. It is this same vacuum which allows light to travel at its maximum speed 'C'. The properties of vaccum cannot be measured but fortunately its dynamics can be extrapolated and understood. A proper understanding of the properties of vacuum is going to solve problems related to wave particle duality, measurement problem, parity violation and the cosmological constant problem. In times to come a proper understanding of the properties and dynamics of vacuum will lead us to better understanding of the universe but this will not happen unless philosophy and science unify. This as already mentioned, is because what we regard as vaccum cannot be measured but can only be understood.

Philosophy quote 88

Unified field theory (of knowledge)

Unified field theory is about how the forces of nature can be unified into a single theoretical framework. We need to however consider that the forces of nature can be unified only when they have a common source and not just equations to unify them. Einstein worked in later part of his life to unify four forces of nature (namely electromagnetism, weak, strong and gravity). He almost succeeded when he proposed cosmological constant which we today know describes dark energy.
Science has already known that energy is more fundamental than forces. Forces can be now regarded as vector fields or potentials which has more to do with energy. Einstein by providing cosmological constant has already given us a theoretical framework upon which all forces can be unified. It's only a matter of time scientist succeed in unifying all the forces of nature and it will be the beginning of new era in science.

Philosophy quote 87

Unifying philosophy and science
Information and knowledge

The importance of any information is only in the amount of knowledge which can be extracted out of it. This would not only depend upon the quality of information which we receive but also on the preparedness of mind which is receiving the information. A prepared detached mind can extract maximum knowledge from a useful information and use this knowledge to find new applications and solutions. More importantly, a detached mind can reject unnecessary information and learn to unlearn so that it could learn new things. A prepared mind is a free unbiased mind which becomes a source of change and evolution. The universe keeps revealing to us all it's deepest secrets as it moves forward in time. It depends how prepared our minds are to receive this new knowledge and find purposeful solutions from it. This also exemplifies how philosophy and science interact together and need to unify to be purposeful.

Philosophy quote 86

Unifying science and philosophy

New science and philosophy

When I speak of unifying philosophy and science, I also speak of a new science and philosophy which shall provide a paradigm shift in our understanding of nature.
This new science will provide us solutions to many outstanding problems of physics like the quantum measurement problem, complete understanding of gravity, unification of quantum theory with relativity, suggesting solution to cosmological constant problem and giving us insight into unified field theory (of knowledge).
This new paradigm shift will also solve many philosophical problems like hard problem of consciousness, neural binding problem and provide insight into conscious supersymmetry.
In times to come this paradigm shift will become a reality and would open new areas of research and evolution.
