He rolled over in his sleep
and I gently took hold of his hand.
I felt his heartbeat through my fingers where
they lay in his palm.
27 years of marriage and I never
experienced that before.
His heart.
In my hand.
I silently pleaded,
“Please don’t ever stop beating
and leave this world…
and please don’t ever stop beating for ME
and leave MY world.
Stay mine.
And I’ll stay yours.
Always you will have my hand to hold.”

“Be kind and compassionate
to one another,
forgiving each other,
just as in Christ
God forgave you.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭32‬ ‭

God loves us too much to answer our prayers
in any other way
than the right way.
And He loves us too much to answer our prayers
at any other time
than the right time.

Two simple comforts I thank God for
repeatedly:

-my soft, cozy bed

-a hot shower

So many people in the world
don’t have these kinds of luxuries.

Thank God for simple comforts in your life.

Don’t minimize the tasks God has called you to.
Don’t compare your role to others.

Billy Graham shared the gospel
with thousands of people in stadiums.
But what’s equally important is
you sharing the gospel with one person
in your office.
You have the incredible, precious privilege
of being the light of the world
right where God has placed you.

Don’t let the enemy tell you it’s not important.

God is worth following
even when the path
doesn’t look like you expected.

Grieve the loss of the path
He didn’t let you travel.
Then take His hand
and continue on
the path He chose for you.

He is trustworthy.

I moved my Bible
to my nightstand.
I want to sleep with it
nearby.
I can reach out and touch it
in the darkness.
It brings more comfort
in my sadness
than that childhood teddybear
ever could.

God is near.

Some days I get so anxious about all the things I can’t control. What will happen today? Tomorrow? Next week? Next year? I find myself tightening my spirit to fight against whatever current comes. There’s a lie quietly playing in my mind: “The direction the current is taking you is wrong! Fight to maintain control! Or everything falls apart!”

Then I realize that fighting the current is pointless anyway. I can’t control my circumstances.
Instead, I decide to relax and let God carry me, like floating on a lazy river. I can’t control the current. I can’t control the scenery. I can’t control who I’m going to encounter along the way.

So what CAN I control? The posture of my heart towards God. The way I treat other people. Whether or not I obey when God puts a situation before me. The rest is up to Him.

So I relax and stop fighting the current. I allow myself to drift along the lazy river in sweet surrender.

God’s got this.

Rejection by another person does not determine your value.
Maybe you were rejected by one of your own parents.
Maybe you were abused by someone who was supposed to take care of you.
Maybe you have been rejected by a love interest, a friend, a coworker, or family member.

People may have treated you poorly
but they don’t dictate the value of your soul
or your life.

You were made in the image of God.
Before He formed you in the womb He knew you.
He knew the number of your days before one of them came to be.
He created you with a purpose in mind.
He loved you so much that He sent Jesus to sacrificially die for you.

THAT determines your value.
It is immeasurable.

Stop allowing the actions of broken people to tell you that you aren’t God’s most precious creation.
He delights in you.
