My mango tree
It feels good to know that there stands a Mango tree
Which I planted as a kid while chasing a bee
I was delighted when I got news of it
bearing its first fruits
I still remember playing around it,
pretending to be a giant wearing my rain boots
I find comfort that the birds nested there
to find shelter during Indian summers
While the monkeys were chased away by my brother
My mother uses the Mango leaves for
all the auspicious festivities
I find it soothing that there is a part of me
watching over her do her daily activities
It didn’t dawn on me until now,
that I didn’t just plant a tree
instead it was a wonderful memory
Do yourself a favor, plant a tree
and let it be part of your legacy.- Ashईश
