Smudged kajal,
Adorning your upturned eyes.
Your droopy head,
Settles on my shoulder.
I hold you close to me.
You run your hand through your hair,
Mumbling out tired phrases.
I hum to them, as we wait for our station,
Seated on an almost empty vehicle.
Your darkened silver jhumkas,
Appreciating your facial frame,
Taken down by me,
Freeing your burden for a while.
And I have sworn to self,
To make sure those eyes rest peacefully, while I am around.
I shall care for them for
Those eyes composed tales I am yet to live in.
And I shall carry you to your comfort,
But you ask for my lap,
As I sigh out a smile,
Massaging your hair.
