When you miss a flight
Sat there watching planes take off and land
remembering the times we flew hand in hand
Times when sun came up with vivid views
and my angel appeared through orange hues
I watch the folks come off their long flights
of unmoving clouds and pitch dark nights
Tired faces light up, hearts land from skies,
belts unbuckle as they rub their sleepy eyes
Daughters run to their father, hug a leg each
Jumping with excitement, his arms they reach
A tired son with a backpack, a bearded brother
fall into the arms of a tearful mother
A boy and a girl kiss like it’s their last time
Glance a thousand dreams bloom in prime
Familiar emotions I see but in faces of strangers
I am rescued again from my day full of errors
Feels so long since I waved her that goodbye
Kissed her forehead, eyes and watched her fly
I know everything’s still fine in this world
like the moment just before I let go of my girl
